Who We Are
The Bamburgh Research Project is a non-profit independent archaeological research project investigating the area around Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland, which is one of the most important archaeological sites currently under excavation in northern England.
The BRP was set up in 1996 to investigate the history of this fascinating castle and its environs from prehistory to the present day, and we aim, through our work, to bring that past to life for everyone.

Bamburgh
Bamburgh is a small, picturesque village on the Northumberland coast unique in its beauty and its history. The village is overlooked by a stunning medieval fortress that is iconic in the region
The citadel was the royal seat of the kings of Northumbria who at one point ruled a kingdom that stretched from the River Humber to the Firth of Forth. Three of these Anglo Saxon rulers were recognised as overlords of all Britain. The site has been pivotal throughout the history of the British Isles, and is – remarkably - still inhabited today.
